The first temple in Zedazeni monastery was built after the death of it’s founder, Saint John Zedazneli, who himself had chosen ascetic activities. Construction of the church must be taken place in the 60-70 years of VI century.
In the VIII century by Clement, Katholikos of Georgia was erected the new basilica. As a result, the oldest church was included in the basilica as it’s Northern part.

Some art historians persuade to assess georgian pictorial art during the last 70 years of XX century as highly dogmatic, inward-looking and narrow. Such assessment is to some extent true of a certain category of artists.
