In this article, the author will discuss issues relating to the social and political history of Georgia in the 8th and 9th centuries, through the analysis of the conditions surrounding the founding of the St. George Church at Ubisa.
The discussion will touch on monastic life in the kingdoms of Abkhazia and Tao-Klarjeti, which lead later to the ideological and political reintegration of these two Georgian polities.
