On May 25, 1991, the Fifth Scientific Conference on the Cultures of the Caucasus was held at the University of Chicago. It was initiated by the Society for the Study of the Caucasus at the Center for Balkan and Slavic Studies.
On May 22-24 (under the auspices of the same center) the seventh conference on the study of non-Slavic languages in the Soviet Union was held. I received the personal invitation from Mr. Howard Aronson, professor at the University of Chicago. The work schedule of the conferences was very varied and interesting.
