The essay presents a brief summary of the first monographic study of the history of the two old eparchies of the Georgian Orthodox Church - Urbnisi and Ruisi.

After the end of the Russian-Ottoman War of 1806-1812 and the Russian-Qajar War of 1804-1813, the lands of Chechnya and Dagestan were surrounded by the possessions of the Russian Empire. Already at the beginning of the 19th century, the Russian authorities began to limit the powers of the Dagestan rulers.
